The tools referenced here primarily refer to auxiliary tools that physically intervene during the material behavior process. They do not necessarily perform traditional painting functions—some are not traditional painting tools at all—yet they continuously participate as materials transition from one physical state to another.
Therefore, the relationship between tools and materials cannot be categorized simply under "painting tools." Rather, the actual behavior state of the material dictates which tools enter the process.

1. Auxiliary Tools in the Alcohol Ink System
In the observation of alcohol ink behavior, the primary tools involved include heat guns, straws, droppers, and cups or containers used to hold and transfer liquid.
- Non-Traditional Attributes of Heat Guns: A heat gun is not a traditional painting tool, nor does it directly leave lines or brushstrokes on a substrate. Its mode of action is to intervene in the motion state of the material by outputting heat and airflow. Under manual operation, the flow direction, backflow patterns, and active duration of alcohol ink change according to the airflow. The heat gun thus becomes an important auxiliary factor in this material behavior chain.
- Transfer and Auxiliary Tools: Straws and droppers primarily participate in the quantitative transfer and localized intervention of liquid; cups and various containers hold, mix, and transfer materials; paper towels and cotton swabs are used for localized absorption and auxiliary cleanup.
- Distinct Tool Systems: The behavior process of alcohol ink shows that traditional painting tools like brushes and sponges are not necessary components for all material behaviors.

Materials undergo state changes inside the container—such as settling, separation, particle fallout, bubble formation, and subsequent drying—making the container a physical spatial carrier where material changes occur.
- Cross-Stage Functional Shift: Certain storage containers can re-enter the painting process later. For example, in certain acrylic operations, squeeze bottles are used directly to hold, transfer, and apply liquid acrylic onto canvases. Containers thus convert from storage carriers into operational auxiliary tools or painting tools.

After pigments form solid watercolors, the material presents dry, solid, and non-flowing characteristics, causing tool relationships to shift toward active application.

- Differences Between Traditional and Fluid Forms: Traditional painting forms rely mainly on standard tools like paintbrushes. In fluid acrylic observations, the tool system shifts to mixing tools, holding cups, large-capacity mixing vessels, and air-blowing tools.
- Process Participation: These auxiliary tools participate throughout the entire process—from transferring acrylic from containers to substrates, spreading and flowing, to final drying and curing.

6. Contact-Based Tools in the Oil Pastel System
Oil pastels possess a solid physical form that can be directly held and moved, meaning basic painting actions do not require additional tools.
- Direct Contact Without Tools: Oil pastels make direct physical contact with substrates to leave marks.
- Auxiliary Contact Tools: When color blending, surface smoothing, or texture adjustments are required, palette knives, paper stumps, and cotton swabs enter the process.
- Mechanical Contact Features: Because oil pastels do not undergo solvent evaporation or drying processes like alcohol ink or liquid pastes at room temperature, tool interventions do not alter material phase changes. Instead, they manifest as mechanical contact and physical shaping between external tools and solid materials.
