Backflow Patterns and Surface Inclination Logs in Volatile Liquid Events

Victoria Hilbrecht

Backflow appears across recorded observations of volatile liquid systems under various liquid thicknesses, concentrations, and setup conditions. In these events, liquid moves back toward areas that previously underwent visible development.

Variations Across Conditions

Backflow behavior takes different forms depending on the recorded observation:

  • Movement scale: Occurs either as localized return movement or as broader re-entry across larger surface regions.
  • Visual clarity: Displays as distinct, clearly visible return paths in some logs, while remaining faint or non-visible in others.
  • Timing: Develops at different moments and durations across recorded events.

Observations on Inclined Surfaces

In logs documenting non-level surfaces, expected backflow paths do not always produce clearly identifiable return movements. However, active liquid development continues across the surface, showing that visual backflow and ongoing liquid movement do not always directly correspond.
